Tracking functionalities in the various apps/clients

Each one of our time tracking apps carries a different set of time tracking features. For example, some features may be supported in the desktop app (i.e. screenshots) while not in the mobile app. Read along to get the specifics for each app.

Desktop apps (Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome app)

  1. Screenshots
  2. Input tracking
  3. URLs/apps (not supported in the Chrome app)
  4. Idle time
  5. Time tracking reminders
  6. User limits
App/Url tracking is ONLY supported in OSX 10.7 or later.
The Chromebook app does not support screenshot recording from multiple displays due to ChromeOS limitations.
The Chrome and the Linux apps cannot show a breakdown of activity for keyboard and mouse. The numbers will always match. This is a limitation of the information provided by the OS.
The Wayland desktop manager in Linux does not support screenshots and accurate input activity tracking due to the limitations of the operating system. The only activity available for tracking is activity directly related to X Windows programs connecting to Wayland via XWayland.

Chrome extension

  1. Screenshots (available on version 0.9.22 and up)
  2. Input tracking
  3. Time tracking reminders
  4. Idle time
  5. Task tracking via third-party website

The Chrome extension has limitations with how well it tracks activity. It is limited to 15 second granularity. That means if you do something once every 15 seconds, you will have 100% activity.
The Hubstaff Chrome extension cannot show a breakdown of activity for keyboard and mouse. The numbers will always match. This is a limitation of the information provided by the X screensaver API on Chrome.
The Chrome extension may not be able to handle a large number of projects/tasks. This is due to limitations set in Chrome or your hardware’s memory usage.

Mobile App

Our mobile app only supports Time and Location Tracking.
