Export or Download Reports in Hubstaff
The CSV that is exported by Hubstaff is encoded in UTF-8. Microsoft Excel for some reason does not detect this automatically like other office suites (i.e. Apple’s iWork, Libreoffice, OpenOffice, etc.). In order to load up the CSV you need to import the data in Microsoft Excel instead of just double-clicking the CSV file. In the import process you then specify the encoding to be UTF-8 (65001) and comma delimited.
Click on the “Reports” tab on the left sidebar, then click on the type of report that you want to export:
- Time & Activities
- Apps & URLs
- Amounts owed
Click on the date to select a custom range of days to view the reports for.
The custom report allows you to group the reports by date, project, or member. You can also filter to view the data just for specific projects and/or members.
The custom report also gives you a variety of filters to use to customize what data you do or don’t want to appear on the reports. Make sure to click “Apply” after setting up your filters.
Click one of the export buttons to export the report as a QuickBooks, .CSV, or .PDF file.

When you export the data it shows one line for each “entity” tracked. Thus if you enabled export per-task data then you will see time for each task and a single line showing how much time was tracked on the project alone. If you want the total for a project, simply sum up the data for that project in the exported data (group by the project column). OR run a CSV report without showing task data to only show projects.
Notes are attached to the item they were added against (i.e. task or project).
The filters for the main report affect how the CSV and PDF are generated.
A PDF report will include your organization logo (if you have added one – read how to add organization logos here)
